I really started diving into the amazing world of podcasts. I’m a bit behind on the Podcast bandwagon, but I cannot imagine my long powerwalks or commutes without them! Professionally developing podcasts. (click away now if I’m boring you…I won’t be upset) There are so many back episodes and I sometimes can’t binge like I can with Netflix…yet I’m only able to listen to one at a time, because, well, there’s too much content and not enough time! #storyoflife
I’m talking professional development. (zzz, I know..) Not necessarily as a blogger, but just as a person and a small business owner in general. (That’s right, I’m too legit to quit.) Yes, small business(es). No, it’s not a start up, nothing fancy. I moonlight as a Jamberry Independent Consultant and a Younique Presenter on the side. Why? Cause I’m in love with the product and love having a fresh manicure and makeup look each week without shelling out my hard earned Student Affairs money.
Enter Jackie Ulmer. I found her podcast on a whim completely random. I typed in “direct sales” in the search bar on podcasts and browsed through the podcasts, looking for one that is constantly updating themselves. I also found myself leaning towards female-led podcasts since the side gigs are predominately female based companies…and geez, there are so many podcasts ut there. (There are a lot of podcasts that are listed, but some had the most recent episode being 2 years old….) Then I found this one gem. Seriously.
Her 15-20 minute (max!) podcasts really get you thinking. Yes, the Mr. calls it “scammy” and “pyramid-y”, a co-worker of mine even calls them “your zillions of ponzi schemes” but I don’t listen to the podcasts to aim to get recruits underneath me and whatnot, I’m just listening for some good ideas for strategy, and breaking out of my comfort zone. Remember, Jamberry has given me the self-confidence to be creative, and Jackie Ulmer’s podcast often has new ways of being creative! Win-Win.
Believe it or not, I am a super duper introvert. Kills me. I’m PAINFULLY SHY. Terrified to talk.
But with Jackie Ulmer’s podcast, her simple tips and tricks convince me otherwise. Even with simple blogging techniques. Her convincing voice empowers me to really think deep, and convince myself the world is not as scary as we make it out to be. And at the end of the day, the only thing that is stopping us from being successful is ourselves.
She has quick “WHY DIDN’T I THINK OF THAT?” ideas that when at a red light (literally, when I am driving), the green light goes off (coincidentally) and I think to myself:
“Self, I can totally do that.”
And sometimes I do, other times, I pick and choose what I do. I’m not really aiming to build a Jamberry and/or Younique empire, I just like having manicured nails, some mascara and lipstick. and a few extra dollars in my pocket for a pair of shoes or a margarita (or two, or bucket o’em).
If you are looking to get yourself motivated in your small business (hey, she even has an episode or two or a few that consider blogging a small business) and want some empowerment, and some quick and easy tips/tricks to help motivate you to get your butt out of bed and just do things, then this is the podcast for you. Professionally, I listen for building my own business, but who knew that at the same time, I’m also building my self-confidence!
I highly recommend for anyone who is looking to boost their speaking abilities, their self-confidence, themselves in general! And to those who think podcasts/talk radio is boring (ahem, the Mr., ahem), don’t knock ’em til you try ’em. I was skeptical at first, but now look at me. Podcasts are the future!

Follow along on social media too- those accounts are always with me (since I am GLUED to my iPhone…), and they are a perfect reflection of just how scatterbrained and crazy this journey of life can really become…
